PREMIER LEAGUE:EVERTON VS BURNLEY

So how did Dom’s team Everton cope without him? No problem at all. Rafa Benitez’s team came from behind in a ten minute spell after the hour mark to put the Clarets away. But for that first hour the home side were largely outplayed and out possessed of the ball. What I like about Sean Dyche is that he sticks to his philosophy no matter what. The long balls to the twin strikers, Wood and Barnes works for them and it caused problems for Mina and Keane. Burnley were more positive in that second half with McNeil very impressive in midfield. The Ben Mee goal was pretty much deserved.

Then the collapse. Mee also culpable along with his defensive partners. Townsend had all the time in the world to pick his spot without being closed down. Let’s not even touch Gray’s goal, naive attacking leaving the vital area in front of the box undefended. How ironic, the very match that Burnley attacked more than any is the one that they ultimately lost so brutally. I suggest going back to the old Burnley pragmatism if they are to survive in this league. Benitez was an unpopular choice for manager, for obvious reasons, but results don’t lie. He is tied at the top of the league with 3 other powerhouses only down in 4th because of goal difference.
