It’s been a testy start to the La Liga campaign for the Catalans but I think Ronald Koeman will be pleased with 4 points from 2 games given the summer turmoil at the club. Memphis Depay was electric again just like against Real Sociedad in the first game showing the importance of having patience with a player who is young and still learning (Manchester United are you watching).
Depay’s goal for the equalizer was excellent with his weaker left foot, he could have easily skied that shot but had enough skill to control it. Barca has defensive issues no doubt but one thing you got to love about them they never change their philosophy of always playing ball playing center backs, sometimes to the detriment of results. Eric Garcia is still a bit off the pace after his move from England. He was sent off for a blatant foul in injury time which was correct having denied a goal scoring opportunity. He spent most of his time at the Etihad on the bench and it’s showing. Athletic Club for all the possession they conceded to Barca were the better attacking threat one has to admit. Barca’s lack of a orthodox nunber 9 also showing with the number of missed opportunities. Inaki Williams who seems to always be a thorn in the Barca’s flesh when the two sides meet was a threat as well as playmaker Muniain. Muniain is one of the most underrated midfielders in Spain, he probably doesn’t get a lot of call ups to the La Roja side maybe because of the depth in that squad. He provided the assist for the opener for Martinez.
