CINCINNATI MASTERS:BARTY VS KREJCIKOVA

These two met in Wimbledon just over a month ago with Barbora on a high after winning the French Open coming unstuck here as she was in London. In Cinci Barty has so far needed only two sets in a game which is a welcome development, she tends to win matches the hard way often dropping a set. As she showed in Paris at the start of the summer, Krejcikova is one of the best players on Tour at finding the corners with the backhand. Check out 1-0 first set first game. Risky shot having gone so low but she clears the net with some margin. After the first two games of the match in which she held serve for loss of two points, Barty began to take hold of the set.

This rally epitomized what Barty is all about. Check out 2-1 to Barbora(40-30). The world number one is patient on the baseline waiting for the opening and boy did she find that corner. The fact that Barbora is one of the top doubles players in the WTA Tour makes the following error she made pretty much unacceptable in my book. Watch 3-1(15-0) Barty. The Czech looked comfortable during the rally and with Barty on the ropes all that was left is to finish off the forehand volley(doubles style) but she could only fire it straight at the net. Barty would break her twice in the set to take it 6-2. How about this slice drop shot for a cool head from the World number 1. Watch 4-2(30-15). Also watch set point 5-2(40-30) for Barty, more poor net play from Krejcikova, she ran into the ball there like a freight train, didn’t open up the racquet.

Barty would drop serve only once in the match. This happened on Barbora’s very first and only break point. Watch 1-1 second set (40-30). For once Ash was undecided there, she wanted to approach the net but the forehand return by Barbora was very deep onto the naseline and caught out the Aussie. Vintage Barbora in the fourth game with those forehands and backhands finding the corners again. Fortunately for Barty, Krejcikova looked vulnerable when serving(only 46% first serve percentage for the match) and she failed to close out the set. Watch 4-3(15-0). Barty had been gobbling up those slice backhands all match, usually finished with a forehand down the line. After breaking in that game Barty would go on to win the next two games to win the set and match 6-4. The net play from Krejcikova LETTING HER DOWN in this one.
