PLAY OF THE WEEK

Messi announced his departure from Barcelona last week. With that La Liga is just crying out for a new star to break out this coming season. That star might as well be Marco Asensio of Real Madrid. Asensio’s goal against Japan in extra time of their semi final at Tokyo 2020 makes the play of the week. Penalties looked on the cards with both sides canceling each other with some solid defending. On as a sub, the Real winger pounced when least expected.

Japan cannot be faulted here the shot was too good. The keeper was covering the right area of goal, defenders doing their job covering most of the 18 yard box. The curling shot was true eye of the needle stuff. A bit cruel on Japan but if I would prefer it to be because of such a goal. Spain would finish with Silver in Tokyo ,Japan disappointingly finishing outside the podium.
