Egypt became the second African nation after Cote D’Ivoire into the last eight of the Olympics soccer. Egyptians full value for the win on the balance of play, with attack after attack against a shaky Olyroos defence. Check out the clip with 4 minutes on the clock to illustrate my point early. Australia’s number 14 Deng is well ahead of the Egyptian attacker to his left. He assumes rthe ball will reach him instead of dealing with the threat. Assumptions more often than not make an ass of you. He was fortunate the first touch was a bad one from allowing Glover to collect. Attacking threat from the Aussies came from crosses from the flank, but the accuracy and direction on them and the headers left a lot to be desired.

The goal in the 43rd minute from Egypt was a work of art. The nutmeg on Souttar(who is normally a pretty solid defender but had mind somewhere last night) but Sobhi was classic and made the goal happen. The Aussies’ number 11 Arzani came on to great effect in this match, adding much needed bite by attacking down the middle. Now watch the chance which went begging for Egypt on 69 MINUTES. Sonhi should have tried to control the ball(I know its Easier said than done when the game is now played AT SUCH A FURIOUS pace) than attempt the header, the header was always going to be hard to get on target as it was coming to him at pace. Best chance of the match for the Aussies in the 79th minute. The mazy run and shot by Arzani followed by the save from Pyramids keeper Elshenawy. Elshenawy followed that up with a save from Deng from a corner two minutes later to preserve the precious lead. Hamdy who came on as a sub made the points safe for Egypt with 5 minutes to go capitalizing on a spillage from Glover. Egypt will face Brazil in the quarters on Saturday.
