TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 18

After the grueling stage 17 in France, a shorter 129km stage 18 from Pau to Luz Ardiden awaited the riders, with just two climbs the highest peak being 2000 meters. Tadej Pogacar dominant again in another stage win, he really has come alive in the closing stages of this Tour. No surprising some riders went for it early being a shorter course. Key for Tadej was to stay close to the leading pack, let them exhaust themselves and then get last wind on the easier second climb. The Slovenian surprise winner of last year is no longer a surprise this year that’s for sure.

He now leads the GC by over six minutes from Vingegaard of Jumbo Visma.Tao Geoghegan Hart and Jonathan Castroviejo had set the pace in the final climb for their teammate Carapaz in an effort for him to steal second place on the GC. The late burst by  Enric Mas in the final kilometer was for nothing as the lung strength of Tadej was too much. Check out Mas in the clip with 516 meters to go. A sign of a rider struggling to generate speed from his bike is the swinging to and from of the handle bars. Now compare with Pogacar’s motion, handle bars straight. The seat of the bike is so high that Tadej doesn’t even need to sit up to generate speed on the bike also keeping your hands on the lowers part of the handles.
