WIMBLEDON:DJOKOVIC VS SHAPOVALOV

Denis Shapovalov lost this one in straight sets but he gave it all he had losing narrowly in each set in the semi final of Friday.. Novak’s serve and volley game was on point especially in the first set. Shapovalov’s backhand was the go to shot. Check out 1-1(adv Shapovalov). The extension of the arm in the follow through generates so much pace it is like he hit the ball after running 100 meters. Novak’s volley game hinges on a great angled serve. Watch 5-5(15-15). The psychologically tough as teak Novak rarely crumbles under pressure and in that first set tie break he was BIG. He went to the same successful formula at 5-3. The basics never fail when you in a big match. Denis on the other hand showed nerves consistent with his level of experience at this stage of a Grand Slam, DOUBLE FAULTING on the first of three set points for Novak.

Denis got his only break of serve in the second set. There is nothing that motivates you for the next set than losing a set on a tie break. Novak got it back in no time though. At 3-3 serving in the first point Shapovalov gave Novak a taste of the net play he dished out in the first set. Now check out 5-5(30-15). Denis had two chances to win that point. First when Novak did lob number one, the Canadian didn’t have the confidence to go down the line(just look where Novak is), and lob number two by the Serb. On the second lob there is no fault in allowing the ball to bounce but be behind the ball. That second guessing cost him dearly in the end. Djokovic went two sets up after this set. In the third Denis started off really well pushing. At 1-0 deuce in the clip he finally got the overhead right. This set was a close affair each having great holds of serve until the eleventh game. With the game at 5-5(Adv Djokovic), Denis who served just 50% on second serve, lost the game on an unforced error on a second serve. This could be testament to Novak going on the attack or proof of Denis lacking the guts to go for IT on the pressure service games. What a way to end the game by Djokovic, with an exclamation point Ace to win the game to love. You would be a brave man to bet against him winning his 20th Slam against maiden finalist Berrettini on Sunday.
