TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 11

Wout Van Aert conquered the daunting climb of Mont Ventoux in this 198 km stage 11. Not only that, riders were to do it twice. The key to winning this stage was the first descent. The key to gathering speed on a descent is to place your hands onto the lower handlbars. You lower your head to reduce resistance against the wind. As the descent gets less and less steep you can start paddling to maintain the speed. On the turns don’t forget to apply breaks or else you will lose control because of the speed and fail to negotiate it. Some riders fell behind in the GC after this tough Stage notably Ben O’Connor who slipped to fifth behind Tadej “Hurricane Taddy” Pogacar by over 5 minutes.

Pogacar rode a competent race finish fourth. Just watch Ben strip off his top as he was feeling the HEAT. Not for the faint hearted. Jonas Vingegaard of Denmark broke first with 22km to go but could not maintain as he finished third. He also rose to third in the GC. Rigoberto Uran finished second some way behind Wout and is now second behind Tadej on the GC as well. One more point on mountain riding. To easy the burden a little it helps to shift your weight forward to balance center of gravity over the rear wheel.
