Mark Cavendish rolled back the hands of time with a victory on stage 4 in a Lance Armstrong like comeback(without the controversy of course). The Brit looked to be winding up his career last season but has had a resurgent 2021. The Redon to Fougeres course started with controversial twist. The riders organized a protest against the organizers after the Stage of Crashes otherwise known as stage 3. You can see from the clip riders slowing down at the start no sprint start. The riders had planned a complete stop at kilometer zero but others were not on board.I t took the intervention of André Greipel(Israel Start-Up Nation) to bring a stop to proceedings on the kilometer mark. Much like the taking the knee thing this was a polarizing protest.
Brent Van Moer was the early pacesetter and stayed on the breakaway until the last 200meters. The Belgian faded allowing a bunch led by Nacer Bouhanni ,Cavendish and Jasper Philipsen to fly past him. It was Mark who had the experience of knowing where to place himself in the bunch to maximize his chances of winning. Check out how he kept close to the rider on his right almost right next to the Frenchman. Buhanni and Philipsen would get the second and third finishes. Mathieu Van Der Poel leads the GC rankings followed by Julian Alaphilippe and Richard Carapaz.
