When a race is stripped down to who is just the plain fastest, no nonsense no major climbs just who is just the best. Stage 18 provided such a scenario with 213 km on a flat course from Rovereto to Stradella. Alberto Bettiol won the stage attacking on the final mini climb. Remi Canagna of France pushed hard closing down Alberto’s lead after he made his first move on the first climb but fell away in the final few kilometers. His high risk riding particularly at the corners failing to pay off. It was a comfortable day’s work for Egan Bernal who maintained his GC lead by finishing near the front making sure to be ahead of his nearest most dangerous opponent Simon Yates. He finished 29th 23 minutes behind Alberto.
