Tottenham’s error strewn first half cost them the match against the Villains. They looked like a team lacking in motivation and heart. Shocked earlier in the week by news that England captain and main man Harry Kane wants out of the club produced a defensive horror show to drop more points from a winning position. The only shining light was Steven Bergwijn. The Dutchman is the only one who challenged keeper Martinez and asked questions of the Villa defense. Bergwijn’s goal capped off a solid display, although Villa hardman Nakamba could have done better in thwarting him. Another Spurs player seemingly on his way out is Delle Alli. Alli played inconsistently losing the ball way too frequently , it is a minor miracle he finished the whole game.

Not to be outdone was Reguillon. The Spanish left back has always been suspect defensively, although unlucky to concede an own goal for the Villa equalizer, his failure to clear his lines twice gave the Birmingham side the winning goal. Such was the road open to the Spurs goal that Aston Villa had an astonishing 20 attempts at goal. Quite clearly a summer clear out is due at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but first call of duty for Levy is to higher a competent manager. Brendan Rodgers seems the natural choice but his failure to seal a champions league spot for Leicester should be a red flag. Someone like Graham Potter will be a gamble but definitely an upgrade from Mourinho.
