PLAY OF THE WEEK

Jesse Lingard’s United and England career looked dead and buried four months ago. He has had a rebirth at the London Stadium under David Moyes epitomized by this goal against Wolves. A favorite of Louis Van Gaal, subsequent managers have failed to nail down his right position in starting eleven. Lets break down the play one more time.

Lingard picks up the ball just inside his own half. Suddenly its 2 versus 2 with Antonio in support. Dendoncker catches up with Lingard but he is on the wrong side of goal. Lets get into his head a bit. Should I foul or should I let go? A foul will mean a certain card which color I do not know. Let me let him go across me sideways making his angle more difficult. Defenders did well not to take the bait from the Antonio decoy run. Jesse could not miss from there with the form he is in. Great goal, one of the greatest in premier league history. But should Dendoncker have fouled? Absolutely, its called taking one for the team.
