By golly Spain left it mighty late in this one.A dani Olmo(Leipzig) goal out of nowhere secured La Furia Roja’s first 3 points of this campaign when it looked like two more points were going down the drain. I think Luis Enrique underestimated his opponents and it showed in his team selection.Notable was the absence of Dani Olmo and Rodrigo from the starting 11. Given the gulf in class between the two sides, it was natural for Georgia to sit back and wait for the break. Spain did not trouble goalkeeper Loria enough to deserve all three points in my opinion.Spain are in dire in of a center forward who can connect with the midfield better than what Morata is doing.Georgia were a menace on set pieces particularly corner kicks.
The goal for Georgia was as a result of being caught out by the quick break, Georgia has some pretty pacy players. With the game slipping away, the crucial changes made by the Spanish coach made the difference. Thiago and Dani Olmo made the difference. The goal from Torres will be given as an assist to Morata but was he not going for goal when he flicked the ball? The pass count became heavily skewed in favor of Spain in the second half especially with Thiago on the pitch.Without taking anything away from the winner from Olmo, the goalkeeping left a lot to be desired. Was he trying to parry the ball to safety or trying to handle it first time?I think he was caught in two minds there. The goalkeeper from a bygone era would try to handle the shot first time like for example Thomas Nkono of Espanyol to show his goalkeeping qualities. But not in this age. Coaches emphasize safety THESE DAYS so I have no idea what Loria was doing there.
