AUSTRALIAN OPEN:DJOKOVIC VS KARATSEV

It is becoming clear that one cannot mention Australian Open final in a sentence without including the name Novak Djokovic in it. Novak reached another Melbourne final beating Russian outsider Aslan Karatsev 6-3 6-4 6-2. From 4-3 in the first with the match going on serve with solid serving from both, seized the set with a break of Karatsev to love. He continued his solid serving to serve out the set 6-3. I want you to have a look at Novak’s service motion. He leans so far backward that he generates so much power, together with the arching motion for direction I can see why he pummeled the Russian with 17 Aces in this match. This takes a lot of spinal strength which is all the impressive. In the second set Novak raced to a 4-1 lead after Karatsev won the first game on serve easily. Novak was up a double break by then having broken twice in succession to love. It was now or never time for the Russian. Down 5-1, the Russian fought back to break back once to bring match to 5-4. He did this with a forehand winner from a Djokovic serve(for once) at 5-2 deuce. Sadly for the unseeded Russian it proved a bridge too far to break back twice. Djokovic served out the set 6-4. Not without Karatsev producing the shot of the match. From an angled Djokovic serve to his right handed forehand, he struck the ball clean across the net, cross court for the winner 5-4 with the game at deuce to give him a break point. Novak snuffed out the danger with two strong serves to close out the set.

On to what proved to be the final set now.Again Aslan struggled on serve and was broken first game of the set.Novak consolidated for 2-0.At 2-1, Aslan broke back. A monster forehand shot winning the game for the fired up Russian. All that came undone the next game as he dropped his serve again for 3-2 Novak. Novak’s serve was the bomb this match excuse me for mentioning again. Up 4-2 after another good service game, he broke Aslan again. The World number one did not need Aslan’s help though he is that good. But when you hit a routine forehand into the net after a short return by him from your serve, you are not helping yourself one bit(check out 4-2,15-15). Novak now had the final in sight after breaking here for 5-2 with him to serve.Guess how the match point was won by Novak……
