This Welterweight title bout in Las Vegas between defending champ Nigeria’s Kamaru Usman and Brazilian Gilbert Burns was a must watch ,if you missed it live sorry. But do not despair I got the low down here for you. Burns who was undefeated until sadly now in the welterweight division gave a good account of himself here. Facing a reach disadvantage, he went for the real weapon in his armory the kick. One of which was so good it hit Usman’s head and knocked the deliverer off balance. I loved the defense by Burns when he was on the mat. Sensing danger, he dangled out his legs in defense which worked a charm. The smile from the Champ as the round ended , he knew he was up against it.
The second round Kamaru started to find his mark, his left doing the damage. His figures on strikes 93/149 impressive. He is comfortable punching it out on his feet, exposing to me his weakness in takedowns. In the third round he did not need to take down Burns, his right did that for him. This time the feet defense did not work for Gil. Usman pounced on him unleashing a floury of lefts and rights to the exposed Brazilian. The ref mercifully ending the fight 34 seconds into the thrid. Usman King of the Welterweights and then some.
