Just finished watching a masterclass from Denver who deserved this victory against the defending champs. Quick off the blocks, Denver had a great start to the first quarter only to let LeBron and Co back into it . My play of the match was in that quarter. Schroeder’s lay up for the dunk by King James. The build up was a beauty, Anthony Davis saving the ball from going out of bounds triggering a counter with 8 minutes to go to finish the quarter. Quarter finished an evens 33-33. Denver exploded in the second. Three pointers were their go to choice of weapon. They sunk 19 of their 47 three point attempts which was not that good a return but it was enough to win this match. Lakers were content to score from the paint 62 in total to Nuggets’ 30. Three pointers a premium at 6 for 28. Nikola Jokic was too hot to handle with 23 points and 16 rebounds for Denver. Second quarter 48-28 Denver. Lakers should have more confidence to try more from outside the three point line.
Lakers dangerous on the rebound counter. A much better third quarter. Credit should go to Kyle Kuzma whose 19 points complemented James’s 22 in the losing cause. 30-24 third quarter Nuggets. The fourth going to the Lakers 20-19, not enough.Denver seventh in the West with a win percentage of 0.517. Lakers, slipping further behind the Jazz , in second now looking over their shoulders and seeing the Clippers closing in.
