The Suns beat the Mavs last night 108-109 to take their record to 11-8 , looking to secure a playoff place despite an indifferent run of form after a great start to the regular season. Booker(24) and Paul(34) top scored for Phoenix but the worrying statistic is that they are the only ones to reach the 20s. The ever so impressive Doncic scored 25 points for Dallas along with Richards’s 24 points.

Now the hidden statistic in all of this. Why did the Mavs push the Suns so close at the end?Free throws. 24 points out if 25 for a success rate of 96% showed that the Mavs did not suffer from the Shaq syndrome, compare this to 10 points from 12 for the Suns(which isn’t bad as well with 88% success rate).Booker had a better points per minute ratio 0.77 than everyone in the Mavs team. What probably did it for Phoenix was their superior field goal percent.
