The Supercoppa is a match held annually in Italy with the League winners facing the Cup holders. As with now the norm Juventus were in the match this time against Napoli. This was the battle of the 2006 World Cup winners , Pirlo against Gattusso and it was entertaining. This match was played at Sassuolo’s home the Mapei stadium in Reggio Emilia but it was Juve who felt at home. . The Juve keeper Szcesny pulled off a great save from a header by Lozano which had goal written all over it.The first half ended goalless but the drama ensued in the second. Ospina pulled off a great save from Bernadeschi bang on the line to keep the scores level. I tell you, Manolas is a lucky boy not to have scored an own goal from a CR7 cross there. But those can be tricky for a defender, those leave it or challenge it type of decisions. The alertness and the box awareness of CR7 eventually led to the opener on 64 minutes. Dries Mertens won the obvious penalty after the foul by McKennie which the normally reliable Insigne pulled wide. That was an ominous sign. Sczcesny was in top form repelling Napoli even after deflections from his own defenders. In the end the Naples side were caught out on the counter in one of their forays in the Juventus half. This was in stoppage time at the end of the match with Cuadrado combining well with substitute Morata, the later finishing the move off. Pirlo winning his first trophy as Juve manager.
