PREMIER LEAGUE TUESDAY ROUNDUP

Chelsea started with an ambitious 4-5-1 against Leicester City which back fired on them in the second half. Lampard having sacrificed a defensive midfielder in Jorginho hoping to get the early advantage over the foxes. This meant Kai Harvetz had the unenviable task of keeping Maddison under lock and key which he failed to do in that first half. Ndidi found the breakthrough for the home side with only 6 minutes on the clock.

A mishit from Maddison fell kindly to the Nigerian who seemed to not catch his own shot cleanly but it cannoned off Mendy’s right hand post into the net. Castagna who was having a party down the right flank found Maddison shortly after but his shot from just outside the box hit the crossbar and out of play much to the relief of Mendy. With half time creeping up, Chelsea though they had won a penalty when Mount was hacked down by Jonny Evans in a borderline decision. VAR upon review overruled the ref as the challenge was just outside the line inside the D. I am not a fan of Reece James’s defending as I alluded to in the previous post. He was clearly at fault for failing to track the run of Maddison which allowed the Leicester playmaker to stroke the ball home unopposed on 41 minutes. In the second half both sides had goals disallowed for offside(Albrighton and Werner) but Mendy was the busier of the two goalies. Chelsea had possession but not in the crucial areas to trouble Leicester. Chelsea are slowly sliding down the table they are now 8th but a host of teams have games in hand over them. Leicester are top at least for 24 hours with the Manchester clubs in action tonight.

West Ham are a rung above the Blues in 7th after a 2-1 win at relegation threatened West Brom. Talisman Antonio scored an almost impossible goal hooking the ball into the net in the 66th minute. This was after Pereira had given the baggies a lifeline with a well taken goal on 51 minutes. Jared Bowen had given the hammers the lead in first half injury time with a chested finish to divert the ball into the net from Coufal cross.
