PREMIER LEAGUE TUESDAY RECAP

When Ed Woodward appointed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager at Man United in 2019 many thought he had jumped the gun a little. They said Ole was too green to take over such a hot seat too soon. 2 years on his faith is being vindicated. Today they sit atop the premier league thanks to a 1-0 win away at Burnley. Edinson Cavani made a welcome return to the United side which struggled for goal scoring chances in their last encounter with Man City. He was brutally chopped down by Burnley’s Brady who only saw yellow for the challenge. The scissor action deserved the color red in my book. So did Luke Shaw’s challenge on Gudmundsson which the ref deemed not over the top. Harry Maguire had a headed goal unjustly ruled out.The referees were not having a good night. Paul Pogba who is experiencing something of a renaissance was the toast of the match with his goal. His first time volley from a Rashford cross was deflected ever so slightly, going past the diving Nick Pope through his legs.

The other match of three on Tuesday saw Everton travel to the black country to face Wolves at Molineaux. Wolves who have struggled for results in recent games lost this one again to Carlo Ancelotti’s side. Everton look a bigger threat with James in their team. His injury layoff coincided with a decline in the toffees’ fortunes. His vision created the opener for Everton, picking out Digne whose first time touch found Alex Iwobi unmarked on the edge of the 18. The Nigerian made the finish look easy, side footing past Rui Patricio.6 minutes gone 1-0 Everton. Wolves in turn have struggled with the absence of Jimenez with Fabio Silva not scoring many. They equalized through an unlikely person in Ruben Neves. Aint Nouri’s cross from the byline found the Portuguese free as a bird in the box.14 minutes gone 1-1. With regards to the Everton winner by Michael Keane, it was just the desire to get to that ball that saw him tower over big guys like Saiss.

Sheffied United FINALLY got their first victory of the season with a deserved 1-0 win over 10 men Newcastle. For me it is better to lose games playing well, that I can accept. This is why Chris Wilder is still on the job in my opinion. Although the results were not forthcoming, they have always been in games. The Blades got lucky in as far as the penalty is concerned though. A harsh decision for handball against Fernandez. But they will take it. Billy Sharpe did the rest.
