FA CUP WEEKEND ROUNDUP

So many games yet too few upsets. The third round is usually the round for upsets but this years only produced one major one in my book. Leeds United under Marcelo Bielsa WENT DOWN 3-0 at League two Crawley Town. Leeds are finding it hard to covert their possession based attacking football into results which is cause for alarm for Bielsa.THE BEST GOAL FOR CRAWLEY CAME FROM Nick Tsaroulla whose outpaced the defense to bury the ball past Casilla. Casilla did not cover himself in glory for the second Crawley goal.Nor did he on the third. Non league defending put out Leeds here and they cannot have any complaints. Crawley deservedly into the 4th round.

Holders Arsenal made hard work of making it to the next round against fellow premier league side Newcastle. Extra time goals from Smith Rowe and Aubameyang after a goalless 90 minutes dumped the Magpies out. Smith Rowe was particularly fortunate to be on the pitch in order to score the goal. His challenge on Longstaff had the ref brandishing a red card in the later part of the 90. He reviewed his decision however to a yellow card upon pitch side review. Lucky boy. His finish was pretty good. Finishing with a side foot shot past Dubravka. Auba with a tap in which if he missed would have him hang his head in shame. The two missed chances by Andy Carroll in right at the end of normal time proved pivotal as far as the outcome is concerned.

In my final match coverage of the FA Cup weekend lands me in South Wales at League two Newport. They pushed Brighton and Hove Albion all the way to a penalty shoot out after a 1-1 drw after extra time. The home side are known for their giant killing exploit having dispatched Leicester City two seasons ago there. How was that for a save from Newport keeper King from Zeqirir. Solley March put Brighton ahead with a left footer outside the box on 90 minutes just when I was fixing coffee for preparation for a long night ahead. A howler by Brighton keeper 6 minutes deep into injury time gifted Newport a lifeline in the match. STEELE COMPLETELY MISSED THE BALL which bounced off the chest Adam Webster into the net.Steele made up forth error in the shoot out saving well Bennett’s spot kick(which was not all that bad i must say).Webster made up for the OG by sending King the wrong way to score the winning spot kick. 4-3 to Brighton in the shoot out. Newport can hold their head high to the sky.
