The Red Devils’ semi final hoodoo continued on Wednesday night with a shockingly bad performance at home to their City rivals. Anyone who watched the match would testify that the best team won that match. Attacking wise United were just not in it to win it. Fernandes had arguably his worst match for United since his move from Sporting Lisbon losing possession more times than he found a teammate. Rashford had a very quiet second half although his first half was lively. Kevin De Bruyne struck the post in the first half for City with stand in keeper Henderson beaten all hands up following a great counter by the Cityzens.

The goal conceded by United first was a very poorly defended free kick. The resurgent John Stones lost Luke Shaw on his far right allowing the City defender to divert the ball in with his mid rift. The killer goal by City came from another unlikely goal scorer Fernandinho. United , who did not deal with set pieces well, failed to clear a corner kick on 83 MINUTES properly. The Brazilian midfielder pounced on the loose ball to volley first time into the right hand corner of Dean Henderson’s net. United’s best player was Luke Shaw in my opinion who kept Mahrez and De Bruyne on a short leash despite being at fault for the first goal. John Stones is the man of the match effectively nullifying Martial the focal point of United’s attack. City had into the final in April looking for their fourth consecutive league cup win against Spurs. Its Pep versus Jose.
