Liverpool lost their second game of the season at St Mary’s and it was their former striker Danny Ings who inflicted the blow to Jurgen Klopp’s side. The goal was scored with barely 2 minutes on the clock from another well worked set piece from Ward-Prowse. Allison was not expecting Ings to have a shot from that acute angle so well done to him for attempting the audacious against a highly rated keeper. The first half was competitive but the second was one way traffic. Liverpool gambled in defence, putting Henderson in a partnership with Fabinho in the heart of their defence. Thiago came in for Henderson in midfield. They looked shaky in the first half but they played well in the second. Mane and Salah looked uncharacteristically meek as far as their finishing is concerned.Mane in particular is my subject for criticism today. He was too selfish at times especially when he dribbled into good positions. The saints on the other hand I am singling out Walker-Peters and Stephens for praise, the later with a last ditch block on Mane later in the second half which probably won the points for the Saints.
