PREMIER LEAGUE ROUNDUP FRIDAY

Happy New year to all of you. There was not a huge amount of fixtures in the premiership on New year’s day like previous years. The two fixtures that were played last night were nevertheless entertaining despite only producing 4 goals between them. I start with the best of them, Manchester United Vs Aston Villa. United now level on points with Liverpool at the top following their 2-1 victory over the Villains. As the score line suggests,it was a very close encounter in which the match could have easily gone either way. It featured the best playmakers in the division, Bruno and Grealish and both did not disappoint.Anthony Martial capitalized on Tyrone Mings failure to get the clearing header from Wan-Bissaka’s cross to put United ahead deservedly I must say as they were slightly the better side.Wan-Bissaka and Bailly were the stand out performers in the United back 4 not to leave out Maguire the captain and Luke Shaw. The Villa equaliser on 58 minutes was more of United falling asleep during a set piece and failing to get into position quick enough. Traore had an easy finish from close range. The decisive moment of the match came when Frenchman Pogba was tripped by Douglas Luiz in the box on the hour mark for a penalty. Bruno ever so lethal from there made no mistake. Bailly capped off a great performance by getting the crucial block in injury time from Villa sub Davies with Villa looking threatening in the final stages of the game. United now look good going into a busy January period. Ole looks like he has found the formula at last.

Everton continued their stop, start season with a home defeat to West Ham in David Moyes return to the club he managed for 11 years. Thomas Soucek’s goal with 4 minutes to go to full time got West Ham up to tenth on the crowded table with Everton missing the chance to go second with Man United playing later on . Carlo Ancellotti will be disappointed with team result seeing the dominance in possession his team had for large swaths of the game.Everton did not challenge Randolph enough though so if you do not create enough chances for your top striker, you do not win period. There was an element of good fortune in Soucek’s goal though. A hopeful shot into a crowded box by Cresswell deflected off Yeri Mina straight to the grateful Czech. The goal celebrated in honor of the new bambino in the Hammer family.
