A match featuring two attack minded teams. This one was never going to finish goalless. The referee and VAR had an awful game in my honest opinion. The two penalties were debatable. The first given to Milan converted by Hakan Calhanoglu was not a pen. The distance between the point the ball is kicked and the handling offense is too close and it looks to me the ball hit the defender’s face. The second one awarded to Lazio I do not see any infringement on the part of the Milan player. Donnarumma nearly saved the resultant spot kick only for Luis Alberto to nod in on the rebound.
Last season’s hotshot Immobile was as cool as ice in leveling up matters after 59 minutes. His side foot volley beat Donnarumma. Pepe Reina the veteran Spanish keeper kept Milan at bay with a crucial point blank save. With the game in injury time, up stepped Theo Hernandez with a header from a corner taking advantage of poor marking. There is a resilience about this season’s Milan that is different from last. They have more fight than usual. I also like the balance of the team. Last season Milan had a very porous defence and a very capable attack. Now the defence has improved , it is THE FOURTH BEST in Serie A.
