LEICESTER CITY VS FULHAM

Fulham won at Leicester to win their second match of the campaign. Scott Parker’s starting eleven was a very conservative 5-4-1 formation(not that I am blaming him, the cottagers have conceded a mammoth 18 goals going into this one). He started without target man Mitrovic. That big decision was ultimately justified by the Serb’s replacement Cavaleiro who scored the winner albeit from the penalty spot.

Leicester City’s Europa league adventures seem to be taking its toll on the players and this was particularly evident when conceding the first goal. A wayward pass from Tielemans was easily intercepted on the edge of the Fulham box. Anguissa picked the ball on the centre area then withstood a half hearted challenge from Maddison to feed Ademola Lookman who had the freedom of the City of Leicester. The Ex Everton man side footed past Schmeichel. Poor tracking back by the foxes defence.

This was minute thirty. Eight minutes later Fuchs wild swipe at the ball did not connect with the leather sphere, instead kicking Fulham’s Reed knees nearly off their sockets.A bit difficult for the ref to see it in real time you may understand. But VAR advised the ref to have a look at the monitor for himself and as always happen 99.99 percent of the time when that happen, the referee changed his initial decision to penalty. What do you do when you are taking a pressure penalty? Do not be fancy, hit the target with pace. Cavaleiro did just that. I am happy that Scott Parker realizes that possession is not nine tenths of the law when you are fighting the drop. Rather get as many shots at goal when you get the opportunity. That is the secret to avoiding the drop.

Harvey Barnes’s left footer in the 86th minute, one of only 3 shots on target for the foxes could not rescue them from defeat. Leicester now hanging on precariously to 4th spot with as much as 8 teams breathing down their necks. Brendan Rodgers may have to choose between top 4 or Europa League, It seems serving two masters is impossible.
