Credit should go where it is due. The Cologne defence marshalled by Cestic and keeper Horn were magnificent on Saturday and were instrumental in winning this game for the struggling side.
Sancho should have helped the home side settle when he should have really scored in the 4th minute clipping the cross bar from a left footed shot. Dortmund were made to pay by double scorer Shkiri in the 9th minute with a close range finish after the ball seemed to evade everyone but him. Cologne left back Jakobs was a thorn in the flesh of Dortmund’s right back Meunier for most of the match making overlapping runs constantly down the left side. In form hotshot Haaland was put under wraps by the resolute defence and did not have clear cut goal scoring opportunities.
In the second half Shkiri’s second was again almost a carbon copy of the first. He sneakily peeled away at the right hand side of the Dortmund defence during a corner kick. When the ball reached him he had an open goal to pass the ball into the net for 2-0.
This goal a damning indictment of Dortmund’s defensive showing, lacking concentration at the crucial time. Record breaking teenager Moukoko gave a bit of spark to the Dortmund attack when he came on. Thorgan Hazard pulled one back on 74 minutes with a side foot finish. But the moment of the match was undoubtedly the save by Horn with minutes left of the match after a full blooded shit by defender Mats Hummels was destined to make it 2-2. A contender for save of the season.
