ATP MASTERS FINALS:DAY5

Rafa Nadal booked his spot in the last 4 of the year end tournament with a 3 sets victory over last year’s winner Stefanos Tsitsipas. It was a winner take all encounter after Dominic Thiem booked his semi final spot with a win over Nadal in their second group match.Rafa broke Tsitsipas’s serve in the 8th game for a 5-4 lead and duly served out the set with an exclamation point ace. In the second set with Nadal serving to stay in the set at 4-5, the Greek youngster seized the initiative with some incredible net coverage. Contrasting to the manner in which he won the first set, Nadal lost the second with a sloppy double fault. 6-4 Tsitsipas

The world number 2 started the 3rd set like a house on fire breaking Tsitsipas in the very first game with his blistering forehand doing the damage. However the dogged Tsitsipas broke back immediately. Nadal would get 2 more breaks of serve to comfortably see out the set and match 6-2. In the group’s other match, Andrey Rublev saw out a stellar season with a win over Dominic Thiem 6-2 7-5.
