This encounter had the makings of a great match.Brazil makes it back to back wins in the qualifiers. That English based front 3 caught the eye again in Montevideo. I was playing close attention to the dark horse in the Brazilian side, Douglas Luiz(Aston Villa) and how he would handle the crucial central midfield role. He had a fairly good outing there. Uruguay’s main tactic was route one towards the big striker Cavani .They were without Luis Suarez but they should have had a penalty when Marquinhos appeared to foul the Uruguayan attacker in the 28th minute but VAR ref ruled no foul. From my eagle’s perch Uruguay has a case.It was Arthur the former Barcelona midfielder, who was superb in the match, who opened the scoring in the 34th minute. He gave the Uruguayan goalie the eyes and produced a curling shot that bounced in front of Campana into the left side of the goal.
A Richarlison header 2 minutes before the break and it was game over for Uruguay. Cavani got his marching orders from the VAR ref on 71 minutes with a dangerous tackle on Everton’s Richarlison. Those of the Liverpool persuasion as cynical as they are may say its poetic justice😊🏃♂️.
