Dak Prescott’s injury explained

The Dallas Cowboys are concerned with how long Dak will be out following his injury against the Giants. In this article I explain the injury ,it’s effects and how long he is likely to be out of action.

His injury is known as a compound fracture and dislocation of the ankle. He got hurt when his foot got wedged between the turf and an opposing player. Now,this is an open wound fracture meaning that there is an open wound where the fracture is located caused by bone piercing through the layer of skin. The picture below illustrates a compound fracture but occuring on the lower leg.

Surgery needs to happen pronto in this case. Why?The wound needs to be closed before bacteria infect it. To do this the bones have to be stabilised. Failure to control infection may lead to amputation. I must say this is highly unlikely for Dak with the kind of doctors at his disposal. Recuperation time can be anytime up to a year so Cowboys fans don’t expect him to trudge onto the gridiron anytime this season.
