Depending on your position on the English League football hierarchy, the Carabao can be like an albatross on your season’s neck or can be a saving grace on a struggling manager. The league cup started this week with premier league sides facing lower division sides in what many say is the most useless competition on the calendar.Besides offering a chance to play in the Europa league, the Carabao boasts a measly 100 000 pounds in prize money(Gareth Bale can pay for the prize in one week’s wage). It poses a big fixture headache as well seeing that the season started off late ,mid September. The FA would have done a service especially to the premier league sides by scrapping the competition all together.
Just across the channel in France, the FFF has scrapped the league cup altogether. The English FA should have consulted all clubs to see if it is feasible to continue with the competition.I know one manager that would disagree with my thoughts here. Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have won the last 3 Carabao Cups. I get the feeling this trophy is more for the manager who is struggling to keep his job (Hey I can’t win the Champions League but look there is the shiny Carabao Cup for you my chairman🤗). Here is my best match from yesterday’s play in the Carabao Cup. Try not to cringe at the poor quality of soccer😜.
